Some scanners are not easy to stay at the correctfocal distance, is the Virtuo Vivo™ Intraoral Scanner the same?
Answer: With Dental Wings’ patient-focussed approach,it is now very intuitive. The technology means that you can be in contact orhover above up to 10mm. Furthermore, scanning algorithms allow dentists to scanquickly and reconnect easily. The focal size of the window allows a greaterfield of view for data acquisition, while keeping the green luminescent ring inview to confirm on-going data acquisition, areas illuminated area beingacquired successfully.
The Scan Technique video(www.dentalwings.com/training) is a good place to learn about the recommendedmethod for optimal scanning.
Is the Virtuo Vivo™ Intraoral Scanner a powder-freesystem?
Answer: Yes, the Virtuo Vivo™ Intraoral Scanner scansas a powder-free system. Some special circumstances may warrant the local useof surface coating, e.g. highly reflective materials like gold.
Does the Virtuo Vivo™ Intraoral Scanner scan incolour?
Answer: Yes, the Virtuo Vivo™ Intraoral Scanner is acolour scanner. It scans in real colour which means what it sees is what isrepresented on the screen. This does not mean you can use as shade detection.
Why do I see artifacts on the scan surface?
Answer: Artifacts may occur in some clinicalcircumstances such as when saliva is not dried, overhead light is not turnedoff/away, or surface is scanned for too long which causes noise accumulation. Most noise gets filtered at the meshing step. However, it is important tofollow the proper scan procedure while following recommended clinicalprocedures. Cleaning tools are also available in the intraoral scannerinterface to remove the affected surfaces for rescanning.
Will the overhead lamp in my office affect thescanning performance?
Answer: Yes, lighting other than the intrinsic deviceprojector can be detrimental to the performance of the intraoral scanner. It isbest to turn off or to turn away overhead lights during scanning to avoid lossof contrast. The effect will depend on the technology used in the specificmodel of overhead lamp at this dental office. Halogen lights will emit adifferent spectrum from LED or incandescent lights.
How long is scan data saved after appointment?
Answer: Surface scan data (STL/PLY) is savedpermanently on the scanner’s solid-state drive. However, to preservestorage space, raw data (cloud of points) are saved only for 10 days.Hence, any rescanning or cleaning done with the Virtuo Vivo™ Intraoral Scannerneeds to be done within that time frame. Afterwards, cleaning will be possiblein the CAD software. However, using the “Pin Case” option allows theconservation of the raw data file for as long as the case remains pinned.
As for DWOS Connect, since it is a communicationplatform used to facilitate order transfer to laboratory and productioncenter, data is saved for 28 days from the export day.
How can Ishare the scan data with my partner laboratory?
Answer: The Virtuo Vivo™ Intraoral Scanner generatesopen STL/PLY files immediately after scanning. Integration with DWOS Connectplatform allows dentists to seamlessly transfer all order information to apartner lab of his choice in a single click at the end of the scan workflow.Alternatively, open STL/PLY files can be exported on their own and sentmanually to a partner lab. A third option is to include order details with thescan data, in the form of an XOrder file, which is essentially a zip filecontaining order details and attachments along with scan data. The XOrder hasthe advantage of being a single file to transfer and can be imported directlyin DWOS CAD with all complementary information.
Can I use the Virtuo Vivo™ Intraoral Scanner forappliances?
Answer: Yes, the Virtuo Vivo™ Intraoral Scanner alsointegrates seamlessly with ClearCorrect™ to streamline the submission processfor clear aligner manufacturing. Similarly, it can also easily send tocoDiagnostiX® (implant planning software) through DWOS Connect.
Is it possible to specify the margin on the VirtuoVivo™ Intraoral Scanner?
Answer: Yes, the Virtuo Vivo™ Intraoral Scanner has atool you can use to partially or completely specify the margin. It is suggestedto use this tool on an occasional basis for cases (e.g. when margins can beambiguous for lab technicians and thus reference points/line would be informative).
Do I need to calibrate the handpiece regularly?
Answer: No, accuracy calibration as well as colourcalibration are already done by the manufacturer. No calibration is required byusers.
STERILIZATION/DISINFECTION:
How do you Disinfect and Sterilize the Virtuo Vivo™Intraoral Scanner?
Answer: The Virtuo Vivo™ Intraoral Scanner comes withthree (3) removable sleeves. These sleeves are autoclavable up to 250 cycleseach, ensuring quick patient turnaround. Body of the handpiece (the area whichdoesn’t go into the oral cavity) may be disinfected with alcohol wipes.Intermediate level disinfection has also been validated for the followingproducts: Certol International Pro-Spray™ wipes, Certol International Pro-SprayC-60™ wipes, Coltene BioSonic WIPEOUT®, GC America COEfect™ Minute Spray &Wipes and Isopropyl Alcohol 70%. Please see full reprocessing instructions.
Can any disinfectant be used on the Virtuo Vivo™Intraoral Scanner?
Answer: No, the following products have been validatedfor the disinfection of the handpiece body: Certol International Pro-Spray™wipes, Certol International Pro-Spray C-60™ wipes, Coltene BioSonic WIPEOUT®,GC America COEfect™ Minute Spray & Wipes and Isopropyl Alcohol 70%.
The tip of the handpiece must be sterilized using awrap cycle of 134 °C or 121 °C depending on the autoclave. Please see fullreprocessing instructions.
